In Olympia, Washington, Tara, the creative force behind Specialty Floral Design a local florist, is sowing seeds of inspiration through a unique outreach program in local schools. As 2024 unfolds, Tara has set out on a personal mission to connect with the community, particularly in Olympia, Tumwater, and Lacey, WA, by bringing the art and joy of floral design to the classrooms.

Specialty Floral Design may be a solo venture, but Tara's commitment to community engagement is mighty. With a passion for flowers and a desire to share her expertise, Tara has been visiting local schools, including a recent visit to Salish Middle School in Lacey, WA, where she stepped into Mr. Brock McCall's horticulture class.

Mr. McCall's horticulture class at Salish Middle School presented the perfect opportunity for Tara to share her love for floral design. Opting for a demonstrated class, Tara guided each student in crafting their own winter centerpiece, providing not only a hands-on experience but also a chance for students to take their creations home.

The demonstrated class not only allowed Tara to showcase her skills but also encouraged students to actively participate in the floral design process. From selecting flowers to arranging them in aesthetically pleasing compositions, the students not only learned the art of floral design but also gained confidence in their creative abilities. She taught them how to green a centerpiece with winter greens. Then the students moved to inserting the flowers which were carnations, daisies, and misty.

Tara's goal extends beyond a one-time class; it's about planting seeds of interest and passion that may blossom into future floral enthusiasts. By demystifying the floral industry and making it accessible to young minds, Tara is contributing to the growth of a community that appreciates the beauty of nature and the artistry of floral design.
