Fall Flowers in Olympia, WA: Gearing Up for My Favorite Season

If you're anything like me, you're probably wondering where summer went! Here we are in early August, and while we're still enjoying sunny afternoons, I've already started looking forward to one of my favorite times of the year—fall.

There is something so special about the changing seasons here in the Pacific Northwest. The mornings and evenings become cooler, the sunsets seem even more beautiful, and before long the trees begin putting on their annual show. It's the time of year when I start dreaming about rich autumn flowers, cozy centerpieces, and all the creative designs that make fall one of my favorite seasons.

Even though pumpkin season is still a little ways off, this is when my creative side really starts to kick in. I begin sketching ideas, thinking about color palettes, and getting excited about all the possibilities for the season ahead. Fall is one of our busiest times of the year, but honestly, it's also one of my favorite seasons to design for.

Finding inspiration for fall: Fruits, Veggies, & Harvest Tablescapes

One of the things I enjoy most about being a florist is that inspiration can come from almost anywhere.

Lately, I've been loving the trend of incorporating fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables into floral designs. There is something beautiful about combining flowers with the natural abundance of the harvest season.

Recently, I created a tablescape using a Grecian-style bust vase filled with peach dahlias, bright pink gerbera daisies, and fresh figs that we carefully cut in half and tucked into the arrangement. On the table, we added candles along with clusters of grapes and more fresh figs to create a warm, welcoming harvest feel.

I absolutely loved how everything came together. The fresh fruit added texture, rich color, and something a little unexpected. It felt elegant, inviting, and perfect for gathering around the table with family and friends.

Designs like this inspire me to keep experimenting and looking at flowers in new ways. I think blending flowers with seasonal fruits, vegetables, and natural elements creates arrangements that truly celebrate autumn.

Organic PNW Autumn Arrangements and Local Blooms

Another idea that has been floating around in my head is creating arrangements with lots of movement and texture.

I'm picturing flowing bear grass mixed with beautiful seasonal flowers like dahlias, roses, chrysanthemums, celosia, and whatever gorgeous blooms are available from our local Pacific Northwest flower farms.

I don't want these arrangements to feel stiff or perfectly round. I want them to feel natural, gathered, and full of movement—as if you picked a handful of beautiful flowers while walking through a late summer meadow just as it begins to transition into fall.

Whenever possible, I love supporting local flower growers. The dahlias that bloom this time of year are some of my favorites because they offer incredible color, texture, and personality. They always remind me why I love designing flowers in the Pacific Northwest.

I haven't created this design yet, but that's one of the things I love most about being a florist. Every season allows me to learn, experiment, and create something completely new.

Who knows...it might even become one of our new fall favorites this year.

Elevating Home Decor with Local Olympia Fall Flowers

As the weather cools and the days become a little shorter, I think people naturally spend more time making their homes feel warm and inviting.

That's one of the reasons I love fall flowers so much.

A beautiful arrangement on the dining table can make family dinners feel a little more special. Flowers in your entryway create a warm welcome for guests. A seasonal bouquet on the kitchen island can brighten your day every time you walk by.

Of course, fall flowers also make wonderful gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, thank-you gifts, sympathy, or simply letting someone know you're thinking about them.

Flowers have a way of helping us celebrate life's everyday moments, and I love being a small part of that.

Handcrafted Pumpkins, Succulents & Fall floral Ceramics

Even though our fresh pumpkins haven't arrived yet, we're already getting excited for another season of creating our signature Pumpkin Succulent arrangements and ceramic pumpkin designs.

Every pumpkin is handcrafted a little differently, making each one unique. They're always one of my favorite fall projects because no two ever turn out exactly alike.
